I have been longing for an adventure since the beginning of this summer. Unfortunately, I have been in summer school, and my summer break officially begins this Thursday! I have been pressing my boyfriend for trip planning, and we've finally decided on a destination.
With my boyfriend Riley's family in Santa Barbara, California, we were of course headed towards the west coast to see them. Our last road trip had so many beautiful stops along the way to visiting them, I only wish this trip could be just as amazing. But alas, our budget is tight this trip. Either way we are getting to pass by many great places along the way, I can't wait to get started.
We leave Austin, Texas on either July 26 or 27 (still planning, I know, it's so soon!) and embark on our journey to our only detour, Zion National Park in Springdale, Utah. During our last road trip we visited the amazing Grand Canyon. We only spent a few hours there and I wanted to take a better trip there, hoping to this year, but I decided we've been there once, let's try Zion. I've heard that Zion is even better than the Grand Canyon (I'm not sure how) but I will decide for myself! Last year we passed through Utah only shortly, and from the few hours we were there, I fell in love. I never expected Utah to be as amazing as it was, and I'm really excited to go back. With tight funds, we may even camp out the night instead of booking a hotel. (I'm not sure about the sweltering heat, but should be fun!)
From Zion, we head straight to Santa Barbara for a few weeks in the Golden State. I have been missing the beach so much, I can't even remember the last time I placed my feet on some sand. I'm looking forward to finally getting back to the west coast. And I'm hoping to get in some good mountain hiking as well.
After we spend a few weeks with Riley's folks, we'll be heading straight home, possibly stopping at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, or even the McDonald Observatory.
This trip is a total of about 3,200 miles and 48 hours if we drove without stopping. I am a little nervous to go on our second road trip on our own, but we did so great on our first one, I know it will be amazing. I can't wait to snap some awesome photos, I will be sure to share them as well as updates along the way.
With less than two weeks to head off, I'm extremely excited to get out of this Texas heat!
